Invitation to submit papers for poster presentation

All congress participants are invited to submit a 2-page paper (A4 size) to icomstpapers@teagasc.ie on new findings in the following areas:

1. Meat and meat product quality

2. Meat safety

3. Meat processing and packaging

4. Consumer aspects

5. Industry hot topics

6. Meat and health

The two-page papers prepared will be included in a book published as the conference proceedings.

No abstract is required.

Guidelines for submitted papers

1. Papers should be submitted as a Microsoft Word document.

2. Papers should be submitted in their final form for publication. If accepted, they will be edited and returned to the author for agreement, but additional data cannot be included at this stage.

3. Papers should have the following format: Title, Authors and Affiliations, Keywords, Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results and Discussion, Conclusions, References.

4. The paper including any tables and figures must fit onto two pages of A4 (21x29.7cm portrait) justified with all margins at 2.5cm.

5. Font should be Times New Roman throughout the document.

6. The document must have single spacing throughout unless specified below.

General requirements for papers

All two-page documents must be received by the conference secretariat by Tuesday 16 May 2006.

Papers must be in English.

All papers must be submitted to the Organising Committee following the guidelines provided on the congress website.

The Organising and Scientific Committees reserve the right to assign the papers submitted to the various scientific sessions.

Authors will not be permitted to edit or correct papers after 16 May 2006.

The main author of the paper must be a registered delegate for the congress, with all fees paid, by Tuesday16 May 2006 . If the main author is not registered by this date, then the paper will not be published or assigned to a poster session.

Papers should consist of original, completed work that has not been accepted for publication in a journal.

A delegate may be main author on no more than two posters.

All contributed papers must be presented as posters and delivered by the author.

When you submit your paper to icomstpapers@teagasc.ie include in the body of the email your full contact details and full title of paper.

Please indicate in the email if you would like your submission to be considered for the IMS prize.

You will receive an acknowledgement email to let you know that your paper has been received and a reference number, which you should use in all subsequent correspondence relating to the paper.

Papers can be edited until 16 May 2006.

You will be informed of the committee's decision to include or reject your paper by Friday 19 May 2006.

Please observe the following

Title: The title should be in font size 12, bold, upper case. The title should be two lines maximum and must not have a full stop at the end. Do not use abbreviations.

Authors: On the next line include the names of the authors in font size 10, lower case. Initials first and then the family name without title. Use superscript numbers to distinguish authors with different addresses. Please include the email address of the main author. The main author should be identified with an asterisk.

Address: On the next line, type the address of the author(s) in font size 10, italics, lower case. Include the full address, with postcode and country for all authors. Use the same superscripts as in authors to distinguish different addresses.

Keywords: Please include a maximum of five keywords in font size 10.

Following text (Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results and Discussion, Conclusions)

Leave one line after the addresses.

Type all of these sections in font size 10 with single spacing.

Different sections should be separated by one clear line.

Section headings should be in bold and lower case.

Figures

1. Figures should be embedded in the paper close to where they are referenced in the text.

2. All figures must have a figure number (Arabic numbering) and a legend placed underneath the figure.

3. All chart axes should have legends with units where appropriate.

4. All captions / legends on a figure must be in font size 10.

5. Do not frame the figure.

6. Figures / photographs will be converted to black and white for publication, so please check the clarity of your picture in this format.

Tables

1. Tables should be placed close to where they are referenced in the text.

2. A table number (Arabic numbering) and legend should be placed above each table.

3. The number of horizontal lines in a table must be kept to a minimum and vertical lines avoided.

4. Values in a table should be in font size 10.

References

1. Literature quoted in the text should be indicated by author and publication year - one author (Mullen, 2005); two authors (Troy and Mullen, 2005); more than two authors (Mullen et al. , 2005).

2. References must be listed in alphabetical order of first author (then second author etc). Names of all authors must be included.

3. The reference must contain: author(s), year in brackets, title of paper in sentence case, journal name in full (or In: Proceedings of ....or book publisher), volume number, page range.

4. Editors of Proceedings (or collected works) should be named.

5. Only published works and those accepted for publication may be included. Submitted but not yet accepted papers should not be included.

Conventions

1. Abbreviations should be used for all units.

2. Numerical values should be given in figures except where the number begins a sentence.

3. Other abbreviations should be given in full where first mentioned and followed by the abbreviation in brackets.

4. Spellings should use (UK) English rather than US English.

5. Units should be given as g/s rather than gs-1 .

6. The SI system should be used for all scientific and laboratory data. Temperature should be given in degrees Celsius.

The closing date for submission of poster papers is 16 May 2006.

Final confirmation of poster paper upon receipt of registration fees 19th May 2006.
