Format of posters

Accepted papers will be presented as posters. Click here to download the Poster Programme

The poster sessions are an integral part of the conference, and it is essential that the accompanying guidelines be followed. The objective is to present a simple message visually (remember that all delegates will have the Proceedings with the 2-page paper available at the Congress). As there will be approximately 300 posters in total, delegates will not have time for in-depth study of each poster. Each poster should facilitate the reader in leaving with a clear take-home message. Remember 'KICS' - KEEP IT CLEAR and SIMPLE.

Dimensions and layout

- ALL posters are required to conform to PORTRAIT ORIENTATION. Failure to follow this requirement will mean that the poster will NOT FIT on the allotted board.

- Poster BOARD dimensions = 1 m wide x 2.25 m high. If printing on one page, use size A0 PORTRAIT ORIENTATION (0.84 x 1.19 m). Alternatively, a number of smaller sheets can be used to create a larger collage, but do not go beyond a maximum 'layout' height of 1.5 m.

- Use heavy gauge paper or card - preferably laminated.

- Divide the poster into sections e.g. Title of poster, authors and affiliations, keywords, Abstract, Introduction, Methods, Results, Conclusions and Acknowledgements. Number each section (see sample poster here ).

Poster design and content

- Posters should be clear and easy to read . Type size should be sufficiently large to allow people to read from 2-3 metres. (Title of poster should be 2.0cm, headings of each section 1.0cm and text within a section 0.8cm). DO NOT REDUCE TEXT SIZE IN ORDER TO FIT MORE INFORMATION ONTO THE POSTER.

- Design the poster to convey a CLEAR MESSAGE. If this is not obvious to the reader after reading the introduction, the message is NOT CLEAR and the reader will move on to an alternative poster, which provides the correct impact.

- Avoid overload - too much information seriously detracts from the overall impact. LESS IS BEST!

- The SIMPLE use of colour can enhance a presentation, but avoid the temptation towards art! Be sure that the background and font colours are compatible.

- Consider the use of a suitable photograph, but DO NOT INCLUDE AS A BACKGROUND TO THE POSTER.

- Full written paragraphs should be avoided.

- Keep Logos to a minimum and discrete.

- Proof read the poster, and get others to do so as well.
