University College DublinThe daytime venue is University College Dublin, located about 6km from the city centre. This modern campus, surrounded by attractive landscaped gardens, is an ideal location for the XXIVth International Biometric Conference. University College Dublin UCD is a dynamic, modern university. The main campus of University College Dublin is situated at Belfield, a 132 hectare site. This campus is an attractively landscaped complex of modern architectural buildings, accommodating most of the Colleges and Schools of the University as well as its student residences and numerous leisure and sporting facilities. The origins of University College Dublin date back to the Catholic University of Ireland which was founded in the mid-nineteenth century by Paul Cullen and John Henry Newman. In 1881, under the Royal Universities Act, the university was renamed University College Dublin. Among the professors during this phase of UCD's history was the poet Gerard Manley Hopkins and amongst its most famous pupils was the writer James Joyce. O'Reilly Hall is the main building that will be used during the conference and boasts the best of Irish contemporary architecture and art. It is one of Ireland's largest and most prestigious venues. O'Reilly Hall, encompassing an area of 2,632 square meters, was designed by renowned architects Scott Tallon Walker. The airy conservatory overlooking the campus lake is used for receptions or as an assembly area. Along the walls of the hall itself are paintings commissioned from Irish Artists. Hot food & sandwiches are available here. -Student Union Shop - Takeaway sandwiches and snacks are available, the shop is good value. -O'Briens Sandwich bar - Soup & Sandwiches are available. Customers can sit down or take away food. -Arts café - Soup & Sandwiches, snacks and coffee are available here. The Café is slightly more expensive than the other cafes/restaurants in the area. Sit down or take away. -Nine One One - Donuts, coffee & sandwiches are available. Take away only. -Science restaurant/Insomnia - Soup & Sandwiches are available. Sit down or Take away. Banks/ATM --There is an ATM available to the left of Nine One One café. -AIB Bank is immediately past the Administration Building and just slightly behind it. -The Student centre has an ATM in the rear of the building on the car park side. There is also a Pharmacy available in the Student Centre and a Post office in the main UCD Restaurant Building. Please refer to above link for locations of above. |
